Job Description

The Electrical Distribution Systems Operator is responsible for the real-time monitoring, control, and operation of an electrical distribution system. This includes managing the flow of electricity through substations, transformers, switches, and breakers to ensure reliable and efficient service. The operator responds to outages, system alarms, switching orders, and load demands while maintaining system integrity, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and control the electrical distribution system using SCADA or other supervisory control systems.

  • Respond to alarms, faults, and outages by taking corrective actions or dispatching field personnel.

  • Perform remote switching operations and issue switching orders to field crews to isolate faults or perform maintenance.

  • Maintain real-time system logs, event records, and operator reports in accordance with operating procedures and regulatory standards.

  • Analyze load and voltage conditions, balancing loads across feeders and circuits.

  • Coordinate planned outages, maintenance, and emergency restoration with internal departments and external agencies (e.g., utility providers, transmission operators).

  • Support integration of distributed energy resources (DERs) such as solar, battery storage, or generators into the distribution grid.

  • Ensure compliance with NERC, FERC, and/or local operating standards (as applicable).

  • Participate in system simulations, outage drills, and ongoing training for emergency preparedness.

  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Employees may be subject to immunization and testing requirements pursuant to Client and current Company requirements.
  • Employees must meet the requirements of the federal credentialing process to access the facility, which includes but is not limited to, obtaining facility access (aka PIV card, smart card, access card, badge) and meeting ongoing training and access requirements.
  • Employees may be required to participate in the select agent program which would include additional background investigations, training, and performing work in a bio containment facility, as well as meeting ongoing program requirements to maintain eligibility and compliance.
